Karla of SPN Survivors

B-day Pals

SSNHow did you discover Supernatural?

Karla: My husband starting watching Supernatural in Season 3, so I was aware of the show, but I didn’t start watching until I stumbled across the pilot episode one morning on TNT a few years later.

SSN: What is your favorite Supernatural episode and why?

Karla: I have favorite episodes for different reasons. I love episodes that make me laugh and “Clap Your Hands if You Believe” from Season 6 is one of my favorite “makes me laugh” episodes because I love all the humor Soulless Sam provides. I’m also a huge fan of Serge Ladouceur, Supernatural’s Director of Photography, and love to watch episodes that showcase the creative use of shadows and reflections in the story. Season 2’s “In My Time of Dying” is one of my favorite episodes from that perspective. And there’s something about the depth and magnitude of emotion from Season 4’s “Lazarus Rising” that I find simply beautiful. I am drawn to these three episodes for very different reasons and find myself watching them every time they are on.

SSN: What is your least favorite Supernatural episode and why?

Karla: Out of 200+ episodes there is only one that makes me emotionally uncomfortable to the point I don’t want to watch it and that is “On the Head of a Pin” from Season 4. The acting talent of Christopher Heyerdahl (Alastair) and Jensen Ackles (Dean) is so brilliant in the torture scene it’s disturbing. Overall, this episode has a lot of merit and important plot points, it’s just packaged in a way that I can’t enjoy.

SSN: Who is your favorite villain?

Karla: I thought James Patrick Stewart did a great job playing Dick Roman, but Mark Sheppard makes Crowley my all-time favorite villain.

SSN: How do you promote Supernatural?

KarlaSince Supernatural has taken over my life in one way or another, I would have to say I promote the show simply by living my life.
Supernatural is a wonderful place that fans can escape to, and while there, find the courage and inspiration to fight the monsters and demons in their own lives.

This show, the cast, the conventions and the fans have helped me find my way back from the devastating loss of my nephew to suicide. The SPN Family also inspired me to take my loss, my journey, and pay it forward to help others by creating SPN Survivors – a Business Charity L3C dedicated to “Helping People, Saving Lives, The Family Business!” by providing information, support, encouragement and the tools necessary to improve your mental health, and thus, your quality of life.

I’ve never known a TV show to change so many people’s lives for the better. I am proud to be a member of the SPN Family and will happily promote “our little show” for as long as anyone will listen.

SSN: Do you prefer one of the brothers to the other? If so, which one?

Karla: No, I love them both. Emotionally, I am drawn to Sam but I can’t resist Dean’s comedic timing.

SSN: If you could be in ANY Supernatural episode, which would you choose and why?

Karla: I would be happy with any episode that required Sam and Dean to give me a ride in the Impala.

SSN: What one character would you love to see back on Supernatural?

Karla: Rufus! I loved his character and how he made me laugh.

SSN: How do you want the show to end?

Karla: As Chuck says, “Endings are hard.” So let’s just skip that part and let the show live forever!

SSN: What other TV shows do you watch religiously?

Karla: I make an effort to watch Castle, The Voice and American Ninja Warrior with my family. Everything else I just catch here and there.
