SSN: How did you discover Supernatural?
Marilyn: I watched the Pilot episode when it first aired. I have always been a big fan of shows dealing with the unusual, paranormal, or supernatural, so I had been looking forward to the show, especially since I had felt a void in this area since the demise of The X-Files, of which I had been a huge fan.
SSN: What is your favorite Supernatural episode and why?
Marilyn: Prior to last season, I would have said Mystery Spot, which I loved for the combination of humor and darkness for which our little show is so well known. However, my new favorite episode, The French Mistake, aired in season six. That episode earned top marks from me for the way they absolutely destroyed the fourth wall, again with a mixture of humor and darkness. Watching Sam and Dean try to “act” gets me giggling every time!
SSN: What is your least favorite Supernatural episode and why?
Marilyn: There are absolutely no episodes that I dislike, as I find them all unique in their own way, (do I sound like a teacher talking about her students here? You can take the teacher out of the classroom…) but if I had to pick a least favorite, it would probably be Bugs, and not for the usual reasons. I just really hate bugs.
SSN: Who is your favorite villain?
Marilyn: Hands down, Lucifer as played by Mark Pellegrino. The way he portrays the devil is beyond astonishing. The nuances he brings to the character make him almost sympathetic at times. As a matter of fact, I recently posted this on my Facebook wall: “I just love Lucifer so much.”— Things you shouldn’t say in front of people who don’t watch Supernatural. They freak me out!
SSN: How do you promote Supernatural?
Marilyn: I talk it up every chance I get. When TNT began airing reruns, a co-worker who had been hearing me talk about Supernatural for years finally started watching and became hooked. He is now nearly as obsessed as I am. I am also currently working on a new co-worker. She likes True Blood and The Walking Dead, so I figure she’ll love Supernatural. I’ll get her hooked if it kills me! I also make some Supernatural-inspired jewelry, which I sell on my web site (http://jewelrybymarilyn.webs.com). I have donated several of my charm bracelets to various charitable organizations for their fundraisers. Finally, I am constantly Tweeting about Supernatural, posting links to favorable articles on Facebook, and generally being a pain to all of my friends. I figure eventually some of them (like my first co-worker) will start watching just to shut me up and end up being a fan as well!
SSN: Do you prefer one of the boys over the other? If so, which one?
Marilyn: I am an unabashed Sam girl. Don’t get me wrong, I love Dean too, but Sam owns my heart.
SSN: If you could be in ANY Supernatural episode, which would you choose and why?
Marilyn: I have actually thought about this one, believe it or not. I‘ve often thought it would be cool to hunt with Sam and Dean, but I’m not sure whether or not I have the right temperament for hunting. If I had to choose, though, it would probably be Abandon All Hope, as a fellow hunter that goes down in flames with Ellen and Jo. I really loved those characters and was sad to see them go.
SSN: What one character would you love to see back on Supernatural?
Marilyn: There are several, actually. The one I would have most liked to see back, prior to a month or two ago, was Ellen. I think one thing Supernatural misses the boat on is strong female characters, and I loved Ellen. Now, though, I would have to say Bobby. He is the boys’ rock and I think they need him back for their sanity. Sam is “dancing with the devil”, so to speak, and Dean is barely holding it together as well. With Bobby back, I think it would be easier for them to get through this particular chapter of their lives.
SSN: How do you want the show to end?
Marilyn: While I would love to see Sam and Dean walk off into the sunset and live happily ever after, I don’t see that as a viable end to the series. I think the best that they can hope for is to die in a blaze of glory at the same time. Unless future movies are forthcoming, in which case, they should continue to suffer!
SSN: What other TV shows do you watch religiously?
Marilyn: My favorite shows, the ones I don’t like to miss, are nearly all sci-fi or fantasy-related. Fringe, Once Upon A Time, and The Walking Dead are probably my biggest obsessions after Supernatural.
