Martika: I’ve always been a monster fan, so when my dad saw the commercials, he told me I had to check it out. I watched the first episode and…really didn’t care for it. Thankfully, he convinced me to give it another try, and that was it. Now I have to remind him to tune in!
SSN: What is your favorite Supernatural episode and why?
Martika: There’s two–On the Head of a Pin is my absolute favorite, because of the scene where Castiel begs Anna to tell him what to do, and because of the end scene, when Dean says he can’t do it, it’s too big. Those two scenes just resonated with me in the best/worst way—I feel that so often, and especially did back then. Every time I see them I get shivers.
My other favorite is still What is and What Should Never Be, because I remember watching it with my dad, and the scene of Dean at his dad’s grave prompted a nice heart-to-heart between us. Every time I see it, I think of that and feel close to him.
SSN: What is your least favorite Supernatural episode and why?
Martika: I think there’s good and bad in all episodes. I was hugely disappointed with the betrayal of dragons and the “Jersey Devil,” but I wouldn’t say I didn’t like either episode. That being said, when my DVD player battery died while I was re-watching Slice Girls, I didn’t mind at all. I thought the whole storyline was kind of pointless and dumb, and while it seemed kind of weird that such a huge thing (Dean’s daughter!) would just disappear so suddenly, I will be perfectly fine to never have them back.
SSN: Who is your favorite villain?
Martika: Crowley has really grown on me. He can mess with Sam and Dean like no other villain—and he’s still around to brag about it—and yet can do it in a way that makes you kind of root for him.
SSN: How do you promote Supernatural?
Martika: I never stop talking about it. I have several shirts that I wear, and that tends to prompt conversations, too. But mostly it’s people saying some random things, and I start off. Today someone mentioned it was Kale Day, which got me talking about Misha Collins, and then Supernatural…Poor random folks.
SSN: Do you prefer one of the brothers to the other? If so, which one?
Martika: I love Dean. I’m the older sibling, and family is everything to me. Plus, I stress about stuff a lot—when he says he feels responsible for everyone, or guilty for random things – yup, that’s me.
SSN: If you could be in ANY Supernatural episode, which would you choose and why?
Martika: I am a HUGE Monster Movie fan, so I think that episode would be so much fun to be in (especially if they could add Frankenstein’s monster in), and it seems like the boys had a good time.
SSN: What one character would you love to see back on Supernatural?
Martika: I’ve recently absolutely fallen in love with Rachel Miner and Meg, so I’d love to see her back. I think her character has developed so much, and I don’t think she’s done growing yet. But Felicia Day is pretty much the definition of awesome, so I wouldn’t say no to her, either!
SSN: How do you want the show to end?
Martika: I can’t even imagine, it’s come so far! Seven years ago, I would have said both boys settling into a normal life with a family. Four years ago, I would have said going back to their roots of traveling the country hunting monsters. Two years ago, I would have said dying while saving the world and going to a perfect heaven. Now, I’m just going to trust the cast and crew to know the perfect way, even if I don’t yet.
SSN: What other TV shows do you watch religiously?
Martika: I’m currently without Internet or cable at my apartment, so TV watching isn’t huge for me right now. But when the Doctor Who DVDs come out, I make sure I’m at the head of the line—it’s pretty much the only TV show that even comes close to my love for Supernatural.
